: Singapore Financial District : :
Land reclamation projects have been underway in Singapore almost
since the day Sir Stamford Raffles arrived. Indeed Raffles himself
directed the first reclamation project. After establishing a trading
post, he literally laid the city's foundations building a business
quarter on one side of the Singapore River in what was essentially
swamp, excavating a nearby hill. Today, that swamp is the core of
the city and the heart of Shenton Way, Singapore's answer to Wall
Street.
A more recent reclamation project filled in the area west of Beach
Road and created what is sometimes referred to as the Marina District
that together with Shenton Way form Singapore's Financial District.
In addition to Suntec City, a massive complex of office buildings
that house most of Singapore's financial institutions both domestic
and international the area is also home to the Singapore Convention
Centre and its compliment of large international hotels.
For visiting conventioneers & international businessmen the
area is extremely well laid out and within easy distance of the
interesting Chinatown and Heritage Districts. FYI, in order to remain
objective, hotels are listed in alphabetical order, we don't favor
any hotel for any reason.
